MIRPURKHAS, Jan 29: The water reservoirs of Public Health Engineering Department in the district have gone empty and scarcity of drinking water has been developed even in the villages.

Reports said that the PHED officials could not store water in the reservoirs as a result of which scarcity of drinking water was persisting in Mirpurkhas district for last two week. The people have been compelled to get water from hand pumps.

In Mirpurkhas town, on the instruction of Taluka Nazim, Mirpurkhas, water was being supplied through water tankers but only to their favourites, while water was being sold at Rs300 per tanker by the municipal officials.

The irrigation authorities have released 3000 cusecs water at the Nara head, which has reached upto Sanghar district, but this quantity was very short for the command area of the canal.

The irrigation authorities have invited district Nazim Pir Shafqat Hussain Shah Jilani for devising a formula for the distribution of available water in Jamrao, Mithrao and Thar canals.

The district Nazim had given proposal to invite the district Nazims of Khairpur, Sanghar and Tharparkar to review the present situation of water.
