Irfan’s four goals not enough

LAHORE, Jan 24: Borjan beat Uni Gas and Nee Punhal upstaged Guard Rice at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) Thursday to qualify for the final of the Junior Cup polo tournament to be played on Jan 26.

Borjan had advantage of one-and-a-half goals on handicap and scored five goals during play. Borjan won 6 1/2—6 because Uni Gas scored six goals. Irfan Ali Hyder alone scored four goals but could not save his team from defeat.

Guard Rice had advantage of half-a-goal on handicap and scored three goals through Raja Aamir, including a hat-trick. But Nee Punhal won 4—3 1/2 as Haseeb Mehta scored four goals, including a hat-trick.

For Uni Gas, Irfan scored two back-to-back field goals in the first chukker. Munawwar Beg scored only field goal of the second chukker for Borjan.

Agha Murtaza scored a field goal for Borjan in the first chukker. Shehzad Aziz converted a 30 yards penalty-hit for Uni Gas. Ahmad Tiwana scored a field goal for Borjan.

Jamal Iftikhar netted a field goal for Borjan at the outset of fourth chukker. Ahmad Tiwana converted a 30 yards penalty-hit for Borjan. Irfan was on target with a 60 yards penalty-hit and then slammed a field goal to seal the victory.

Haseeb Mehta scored all four field goals for Nee Punhal. Raja Aamir scored all three field goals, striking once in the first, second and the third chukkers. Haseeb scored one goal in first and the third chukkers and two in the second.

Earlier the same day, Musa Industries will play subsidiary final against Kashmirian.

Musa Industries defeated Rangers. Syed Hasan Raza Gillani and Samiullah scored three goals, each. For Rangers, Lt.-Col. Talat Zia struck twice while Major Jalil scored one goal.
