LAKKI MARWAT, Jan 24: Members of two union councils of Lakki Marwat district have threatened to observe hunger strike to press for the acceptance of their demands.

According to an information, an emergency meeting of the Nazimeen and councillors of the union council Lakki one and two was held under the chairmanship of the Nazim of the union council Lakki one, Dr Khalid Latif Khan Mina Khel, on Thursday.

Dr Khalid pointed out that there was no lady doctor in the district headquarters hospital of Lakki Marwat despite the fact that there were three posts reserved for lady doctors.

He said some days back a male doctor handled a childbirth case in share contravention of rules and traditions.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Naib Nazim Abdur Rashid and councillors Shaikh Mujahid Naseer, Mohammad Nawaz alias Jamedari, Haji Mir Aslam Khan, Amir Aslam and Majid.

The attendants threatened that unless the health officials and concerned circles failed to transfer/station/post a lady doctor within 10 days, they would, with the cooperation of the people, resort to a sit-in in front of the executive district officer (EDO) health and would also go on a hunger strike.

The meeting also rejected the imposition of property tax by the excise and taxation department, pointing out to the paradox that while the government had declared the southern districts as natural calamity-hit areas it had decided to impose property tax.

They pledged to continue to oppose the tax.
