Islamabad condemns terrorist assault

By Hasan Akhtar

ISLAMABAD, Jan 22: Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, Foreign Office Spokesman Aziz Ahmad Khan told reporters on Tuesday when asked for Islamabad’s reaction to the terrorists’ attack on the American Centre in Kolkata.

When asked for comments on a statement by Indian Home Minister L.K. Advani and Pakistan’s intention to give a list of its criminal fugitives sheltered in India, the spokesman suggested that such matters could best be discussed by two countries across the table rather than through press statements.

“We have taken note of the Indian statement. As for the lists, I can’t say (much at present) as you know it takes some time. We want to collect all facts and information. But more important here is that these are matters that need to be discussed rather than communicated through media, diplomatic channels or otherwise ... it is much better that all matters and issues are discussed across the table in negotiations.

“As you understand Pakistan has always called for discussing all issues with India, including the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, through negotiations across the table,” the spokesman emphasized.

In such matters, he said, there were several complicated issues involved.

There were issues in which legal questions were involved; there were questions of legislations, and the existence or non-existence of an extradition treaty, he said.
