LAHORE, Jan 22: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday called for a reply from the Lahore district Nazim for Jan 29 on a petition against illegal occupation of a plot and setting up a joint graveyard for the Muslims and Christians by two councillors of Khalid Nagar, Mauza Dalu Kalan.

The court sought reply as what action was taken against the accused councillors for grabbing the land of the petitioner.

The court expressed concern over non-compliance of its repeated orders for not filing a reply. Additional advocate general Bilal Khan appearing before the court sought time and the court allowed.

The petition filed by Amir Yousaf through his counsel submitted that he purchased a plot from Muhammad Anwar, but the area councillors, including Arif Bhatti, Azrar Ali Khokhar and Kala Masih, illegally occupied the plot and set up a graveyard.

He informed the court that he had lodged an application with the district Nazim, but to no avail.

The petitioner prayed the court to take action against councillors for grabbing the land and direct to return his plot.

DIRECTIVE: The LHC directed the Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education secretary to decide the matter of appointments within 30 days in accordance with the order of the Supreme Court on a petition seeking compliance of the court order.

Earlier, the board secretary appearing before the court sought time and the court granted.

Petitions filed by Saeed Ahmad and 39 others through advocates Chaudhry Sajjad Tabbasum and Rana Muhammad Sarwar submitted that they and dozens of others were appointed in grade-4 in the board in January, 1997, but later on Feb 22, 1997, the then prime minister through a notification banned new appointments.

They submitted that they had approached the Supreme Court which had observed that the notification was not applicable to the appointees as the BISE was an autonomous body. On it, the board authorities appointed only those who had approached the court and neglected them.

They prayed the court to declare the act of board authorities as illegal and direct to appoint them.

ASI SUSPENDED: The high court suspended from service an ASI of the Renala Khurd police for keeping two brothers in illegal custody and directed the Okara SSP to take action against two other policemen involved in the matter.

The court passed the order on a petition filed by one Kamran Aqil for the recovery of his brothers, Shahzad and Sohail, from illegal custody of the police.

The court also directed the Anti-Corruption director to take action against ASI Arshad Hanif for taking a bribe of Rs2,000 from the detenus.

SHOW-CAUSE TO SSP: The high court issued a show-cause notice to the Kasur SSP for not producing the challan of murder accused on a contempt petition. It also summoned the relevant record.

The petition filed by Advocate Nawab Ali Meo submitted that the nephew of his client Mushtaq was murdered by Arshad, Qayyum and others. The Kasur Saddar police completed the investigation but were reluctant to submit the challan to the trial court concerned despite court order.

He prayed the court to take action and initiate contempt proceedings against the negligent police officials.—APP
