Zaman critical of PONAM leaders

Published January 22, 2002

LAHORE, Jan 21: World Punjabi Congress Chairman Fakhar Zaman has criticized PONAM leaders Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Sardar Akhtar Mengal, Jalal Mahmood Shah and Dr Qadir Magsi for their utterances against the Punjab.

In a press statement issued here on Monday, he said remarks attributed to these leaders were provocative, condemnable and a deliberate attempt to promote hatred among provinces.

He recalled that more than half a million Punjabis had sacrificed their lives for the creation of Pakistan. Then, he said, it was the people of Punjab who suffered hardships to have the martial law lifted.
