Gynaecologists appointed for Pakistan team

NEW DELHI, Jan 16: Three female gynaecologists are on hand to attend to cricketers from Pakistan and Bangladesh during the ongoing Test match at Chittagong, a newspaper reported Wednesday.

The three doctors are among a panel of medical experts appointed by Bangladeshi organisers to oversee the health of the cricketers, the Delhi-based Hindustan Times said.

The move has kicked up a row in Chittagong with officials alleging that the gynaecologists are only on the panel so that they can get free passes to watch the match, the paper’s Bangladeshi correspondent reported.

The Chittagong district sports body, which is organising the Test, defended its decision by saying that gynaecologists were also doctors, the paper said.

The cat was let out of the bag by a senior surgeon who said one of the gynaecologists at the match was the wife of the chief co-ordinator of cricket in Chittagong.—AFP
