QUETTA, Jan 16: A US congressmen delegation, comprising six members of the sub-committee for foreign operation, arrived here on a two-day visit on Wednesday.

Soon After their arrival, the delegation, headed by Jim Kolbe, visited a drop-in centre for Afghan garbage-picking boys. The centre is funded by an American NGO, Save the Children.

Federal Minister for Education Zubaida Jalal and US Counsel-General John Kinth accompanied the delegation.

The manager of the NGO, Nayyar Iqbal, while briefing the US legislators, said two centres had established in Quetta under the programme to provide safe environment and non-formal education to the Afghan children collecting garbage in the city.

Mr Kolbe said the purpose of his visit to Quetta was to review the activities of the NGO and the use of its funds.

He said steps were being taken for the provision of education, health and other facilities to the Afghan children in the refugee camps.

The US lawmaker assured the government and the non-governmental organization working for refugee families of all possible help and cooperation.
