KARACHI, Jan 15: 900 more power connections of the KESC’s defaulters were disconnected by special KESC teams comprising Army, Ranger and Police officials during its ongoing operation for the recovery of the outstanding dues of Rs20 billion.
This brings the number of disconnected defaulters to 1800 on the second day of the recovery drive.
The campaign is continuing in eight billing zones of Saddar, F.B.Area, New Karachi, Old Town, Mauripur, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, North Nazimabad and Clifton.
In the Industrial zone, power supply to 70 units was disconnected on Tuesday, bringing the total number of disconnected defaulters to 140. An amount of Rs4.422 billion is outstanding against 14,916 industrial defaulters.
Out of 900 domestic and commercial disconnections on Monday, power supply to 62 defaulters was restored after they made a payment of Rs0.535 million — being 50 percent of the amount outstanding against them. They were allowed to pay the rest in instalments.
In the industrial sector 51 consumers were reconnected after they made a payment of Rs3.8 million.
Brig Irfan Ali, Head of the Army Monitoring Teams, supervised the disconnection operation in F.C. Area.
He visited the F.B. Area and Gulshane Iqbal billing offices to review the reconnection process.
He advised the KESC staff to be courteous with the consumers while solving their billing problem.
The KESC announced that its billing offices in the area where disconnection operation was continuing would remain open till midnight to facilitate the reconnection of supplies on receipt of payment of dues from defaulters.—APP
