Four SC judges take oath

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 10: Chief justice of Pakistan, Justice Mohammad Bashir Jehangiri, administered oath to four new judges of the Supreme Court under the Provisional Constitutional Order, completing the sanctioned strength of 17 judges of the apex court, here on Thursday.

Justice Raza Khan, Justice Khalilur Rehman, Justice Mohammad Nawaz Abbasi and Justice Fakeer Khokhar took oath as SC judges.

The Supreme Court Bar Association had announced that it would boycott the ceremony. However, a large number of lawyers, mostly from Rawalpindi and Islamabad bars, attended the ceremony. The appointments have violated the principle of seniority, enunciated by the SC five years ago.

The SC had also upheld the sacking of an elected government, on the ground that it had criticized the SC judgment, commonly known as the judges case.
