FAISALABAD, Jan 10: The Punjab government is all set to revamp the education system in the province with the help of latest equipment and development to date.
This was stated by the Punjab Governor, Lt-Gen Khalid Maqbool (retired), while talking to newsmen here on Thursday.
The governor said computers would be provided to every school in the province to keep the students abreast with times. Initially around 25,000 computers would be installed in the institutions while the number would be enhanced with time, he added.
Bringing about drastic changes in the system, he said, those with meagre resources would have an opportunity to grow and learn on equal standing with the pupils getting benefits at private institutions.
He said at least 35,000 teachers of English and science subjects were being inducted in various primary schools in the Punjab. Equal opportunities would be shared by students in the technical schools to prepare themselves for the challenges of the 21st century, he assured.
Mr Maqbool pointed out the government was making efforts to provide facilities to people at their doorsteps, adding despite paucity of funds, a sum of Rs20 billion had been allocated for development projects. Of the total amount, Rs10 billion would be spent on completion of development schemes and improvement of infrastructure while Rs5 billion had been earmarked for the Khushal Pakistan Programme (KPP), he added.
He assured the police officials that maximum funds would be allocated to the department for making it more effective against crime. Various strategies to be employed on the department were under discussion, he said.
The governor announced that the Faisalabad-Sheikhupura dual carriage-way would be constructed under the Built Operate and Transfer (BOT) system for the convenience of motorists. He said instructions had been issued for the early completion of Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad Motorway section.
He said work was going on the project of providing communication facilities to the people and all the heads of district governments had been directed to evolve schemes in keeping with the recommendations of the elected representatives.
The government was on a war to fight the menace of unemployment through better industrialization and enhancing productivity in the province.
Addressing the members the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI), the governor said the number of taxes had been reduced from 26 to eight for the benefit of the industrialists. He urged the business community to come forward with generous assistance to the government to make it a successful venture.
Industrialists in Faisalabad, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Gujrat and Multan would be offered maximum facilities so as to attract investors and accelerating the pace of industrialization in consonance with the latest technology, he urged.
Meanwhile, the governor paid a surprise visit to zila kutchery and inspected the work being done by registrars. He directed the district Nazim to take action against the contractor of transfer of property fee and resolve the peoples’ problems in this regard.
