LAHORE, Jan 6: City Government squads demolished platforms, shutters and shades of 250 shops during an operation against encroachments in the general parking area of the Badami Bagh General Bus Stand here on Sunday.

The operation undertaken on the directive of District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood, who inspected the area a few days back, started at 7 am and continued till 6 pm.

Debris was removed from the area to prevent its use for reconstruction of the platforms.

Notices for the removal of encroachments were served on the shopkeepers after the inspection of the district nazim but they did not bother to comply with the instructions.

Addressing a meeting of the city government officials, District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood said the elimination of the mafia of landgrabbers was his first priority.

He said the legal advisers and officers found responsible for facilitating unlawful occupation of municipal properties worth millions of rupees would be fired.
