Wapda fail to reach final

LAHORE, Jan 5: Wapda struggled to beat Police 18-16 in the last league match of the Morven Gold National Inter-department baseball championships at the Iqbal Parks Sports Complex on Saturday.

Police, however, qualified for the final on better scoring average than Wapda. The final will be played between Army and Police on Sunday at 10 am.

Wapda scored two runs each in the first three innings. They got five and six runs in the fourth and the fifth innings, respectively and one in the seventh innings.

Police took a flying start of scoring 10 runs in the first innings but could not maintain it and did not score any run till the fifth innings.

However, Police staged a come back scoring three runs each in the sixth and seventh innings but only to reduce the margin 16-18.

For Wapda, Iftikhar Ahmad Moughal scored four runs with one home run.

Amjad Farooq and Ali Shah added four and three runs, each. Abu Bakar and Asghar Siddique made two runs each while Abid Mahmood, Saqib Butt and Mudassar chipped in with one run apiece.

For Police, Akhtar Khan scored three runs with one home run. Nasir Butt, Khurram Shahzad Butt also added three runs each.

Kamran Butt and Ghulam Husain added two runs each while Shahzad Anwar, Waqas Khan and Hafiz Mussadaq added one run, apiece.
