GUJRANWALA, Dec 31: A meeting of the Revenue department voiced its disquiet over the pace of recovery and directed all tehsildars to achieve at least 50 per cent recovery target besides completing the records of defaulters.
Presiding over the meeting here on Monday, executive district officer (revenue) Mehr Muhammad Nawaz said the Revenue department had recovered Rs22.6 million which was less than the projected target.
He said the pace of recovery in Gujranwala tehsil was 20.5 per cent, Kamoke 3.4 per cent, Naushera Virkan 11.9 per cent and Wazirabad 19.9 per cent.
The meeting appreciated the Excise and Taxation department for achieving a target of 57 per cent by recovering an amount of Rs32.8 million. He however urged the department to recover the remaining amount during the current fiscal year.
Meanwhile, the district government elevated a community development EDO to issue NOC for stage shows, dramas and other similar activities and also issued a notification in this respect.
KILLED: A notorious proclaimed offender and killer of seven people was arrested after a brief encounter here on Monday.
On a tip-off, the police conducted a raid at the hideout of PO Rana Nazim in Kangniwala locality. But he opened fire on police which was returned. After a brief shootout, the PO surrendered himself to police. He was wanted by police in over 117 cases of murder, dacoity, robbery and other heinous crimes.

RESTRAINED: A tehsil city council’s food inspector on Monday was stopped from performing field duty by the tehsil city Nazim on the charge of embezzlement and ordered an inquiry against him.
Majid Baber had been elevated food inspector by the defunct municipal corporation from sanitary inspector without merit. On corruption complain, tehsil city Nazim Babu Javed sought his service record and also stopped his salary till the decision of his case.
LOOTED: Six armed highwaymen on Monday looted a wagon on the Pasrur Road.
The wagon was on its way to Pasrur from Gujranwala when it was intercepted by outlaws after placing barricades on the road near Jandiala Baghwala village. Armed robbers snatched cash, ornaments and wristwatches worth Rs60,000 from passengers.
They also thrashed some passengers for putting up resistance. Later, they ran away when a mobile police van appeared on the scene.
