KARACHI, Dec 24: Reckless driving claimed three lives in the city on Monday.A young man died in a road accident in Federal B-Area. The police said that the young man, identified as Ayaz Ali, aged 25, was run over by a minibus of route (W-11) near a petrol pump in Block-16 in FB Area. He died on the spot. The minibus driver escaped after the accident, the police said. The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.

Sources at Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) said Ghulam Nabi, aged 35, seriously injured in a road accident, was brought to the JPMC. He was being treated in an emergency ward where he died.

However, the Tipu Sultan and Sharea Faisal police drew a blank on the accident.

A truck cleaner died and the driver of the truck was injured when their truck overturned near Nooriabad on Super Highway in the night.

Sources at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital said that Shafee Mohammed, aged 23, died on the spot, and the driver of the truck, Imdad, was injured.

The cleaner’s body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The injured driver had been admitted to the hospital, the police said.

CARJACKING: Eleven vehicles — six cars and five motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Monday, the police said.

The cars were hijacked/stolen in Baghdadi, Saddar, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Bahadurabad, Aziz Bhatti, and Federal B-Area.

The motorcycles were stolen in Frere, Bahadurabad, Paposhnagar, Mochko, and Buffer Zone.

KILLED: A young woman was allegedly set on fire by her cousin in Ittehad Town on late Sunday night.

A Bengali-speaking woman, Raeesa Khatoon, 33, was alone in her home, when her cousin Nizamuddin entered the house. Arguments took place between them and Nizam became enraged, sprinkled kerosene on Raeesa’s clothes and set her on fire.

Hearing her cries, Raeesa’s neighbours rushed to rescue her. She suffered serious burns and was rushed to Civil Hospital where she died. The police, reportedly, detained Nizam for questioning.

ROBBERY: Bandits barged into the house of a local journalist, Faisal Rajput, in Gulistan-i-Jauhar and looted gold jewellery and other valuables.
