JI for election under interim set-up

By Our Correspondent

BAHAWALPUR, Dec 23: All political parties opposed to America have decided to exert pressure on the military regime to set-up an interim government for holding free, fair and impartial election under the independent election commission.

This was stated by acting Jamaat-i-Islami amir Syed Munawar Hassan while speaking at the Eid Milan party here on Sunday.

He said that he had met Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan two days ago in Lahore where we had convergence of views that the APC on Dec 27 should be attended by only those parties who opposed US for launching attack on Afghanistan.

The decision to re-organize the Pak-Afghan Defence Council was also taken to bring out rallies against the government from Friday, he said.

Mr Hassan criticized the government’s Afghan policy and had held president Pervez Musharraf equally responsible along with US president Bush for the genocide of Muslims in Afghanistan.

He said the government should take firm stand on nuclear issue, Kashmir and jihadi organizations.

The gathering adopted a resolution demanding the release of JI chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed, SSP’s Azam Tariq and JUI’s Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
