Students enhance cement’s strength

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Dec 22: The Chemical Engineering Department of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, has enhanced the strength of cement.

This new research was conducted by a group of students under the guidance of two professors, Syed Farman Ali Shah and Mir Sajjad Hussain Talpur.

The students group, led by Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti, has worked on Effective Micro organisms (EM) technology. This technology has been for the first time introduced in the field of chemical engineering, in any engineering university of Pakistan.

The chairman of the department Prof Munawar Ahmed Memon and other faculty members have commended this research work. They expressed the hope that if the young researchers of the department were provided with the latest facilities and given encouragement, they could work more enthusiastically and new areas could be found to work in the EM technology and in other fields of chemical engineering.

It is claimed that this research is more useful and economical for cement structures and will provide more strength to the structures.

The supervisor of the project, Farman Ali Shah said, “We have used EM solution to Ordinary Portland Cement and Sulphate Resisting Cement of different cements of public and private sectors and found that EM technology is more useful to all kinds of cements”.

He further added that, “EM Research Organisation, Japan, has shown willingness to provide technical support in this regard.
