MULTAN, Dec 22: The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) on Saturday set up its sub-offices in each union council for prompt redressal of sewerage problems and recovery of bills from consumers.
Services of the Wasa staff appointed in 55 union councils have been placed at the disposal of the Deputy Director Revenue (DDR) for performing recovery function. They will mark their presence in the attendance register being maintained in UCs and remain in the halqas and submit monthly attendance certificate to the DDR duly certified by Nazim or Naib Nazim by the end of each month.
In addition to recovery, they will also be liable to detect the unauthorized water supply and sewer connections. They will also receive applications for new connections and disconnections.
The staff has also been entrusted with the task of receiving complaints for correction of bills and submitting them to the DDR with the recommendation of Nazims of respective union councils.
When contacted, managing director Ashiq Chaudhry said the step would facilitate people in getting their bills corrected or to register their complaints at sub-offices rather than head office.
He said the Wasa did not have enough funds to shook the city off sewerage problems for a majority of people did not pay bills. The newly-taken step would certainly help in increasing the recovered amount manifold enabling the agency to improve the sewerage situation in the city, he added. — Nouman
