KARACHI, Dec 22: At a time when water shortage continues to persist in different parts Lyari, some more parts of the city went dry on Saturday, forcing the residents of affected localities to buy private tankers at exorbitant rates.
The localities which remained dry for the second consecutive day on Saturday included Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s blocks 3, 4, 4-A, 10 and 10-A and North Karachi’s Sector 5-A.
Complaints of persisting water shortage have also been received from parts of Mithadar, Kharadar and Lyari’s Gul Mohammad Lane, Phool Pati Lane and Dariabad.
Residents of the affected areas of Lyari said although acute shortage had been persisting in their localities for the past one month, the concerned KWSB officials seem least interested in improving their water supply.
They deplored that in the absence of water they have no choice but to drink sub-soil unhygienic water at the cost of their health.
OVERFLOW: A row over jurisdiction of area with regard to maintenance of sewerage line in Orangi Town’s Sector 1-C between the KWSB and Orangi Town had become a source of mental torture for the area residents.
Residents of the affected sector regretted that although filthy water had been gushing out from a number of choked gutters for the past more than one month, neither the KWSB nor the Town were taking measures to clear the choked gutters.
They said overflowing sewage on streets, near Ebrahim Alibhoy School, has become a constant nuisance for.
