KARACHI: Housewife dies of burns

KARACHI, Dec 19: An elderly housewife died of burns in her home in Federal B-Area on Wednesday.

Police said Champa Khatoon, aged 60, was cooking in her home in Bengali Para, Yasinabad, FB Area, when the stove burst injuring her seriously. She was rushed to Civil Hospital where she died. She suffered 92 per cent burns, sources at the hospital said.

INJURED: Unidentified men shot and wounded a man in PECHS on Wednesday night.

Sources at the JPMC said Mohammed Ismail, aged 45, had gone out of his home in PECHS Block-6 to offer Magreb prayers at a nearby mosque, when unidentified men, riding on a motorcycle, opened fire on him and escaped.

He was rushed to the JPMC from where he was shifted to Aga Khan Hospital by his family. Sources at the JPMC said Ismail received two bullet wounds: one in the abdomen and the other pierced through his jaw.

Police said he was a teacher in an information technology institute and was a former employee of an International oil company, from where he had taken retirement several years back.

Unknown men shot and wounded a young man in Baldia Town on Wednesday.

Police said Mohammed Hanif, aged 24, was injured when unknown men opened fire on him in Mujahid Colony, Baldia Town. Hanif was a resident of New Anjam Colony, Baldia Town, police said. He had been admitted to Civil Hospital where he was stated to be out of danger.
