Eid celebrated in Canada

By Latafat Siddiqui

TORONTO, Dec 16: Over one million Muslims, including 150,000 Pakistanis, celebrated Eid in Canada on Sunday.

Unlike the last three years, the Toronto-based Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee of Canada, comprising 20 Ulema, had unanimously decided to celebrate Eid on Sunday.

A spokesman for the committee had announced on Saturday that the Eid moon was sighted as the sky was clear after Friday’s heavy snowfall.

Large Eid congregations were held in all cities, including Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver.

The prayer leaders in their sermons said Muslims wanted global peace. They also prayed for the peaceful settlement of Palestine and Kashmir disputes.
