GUJRANWALA, Dec 15: The record of excise and taxation offices in Ghakhar Town, Gujrat and Kharian was taken into custody and some offices were also sealed on Saturday.
The Punjab Excise and Taxation directorate-general received reports that some officials of these offices were extorting money from people on the pretext of property survey and allegedly tempering with records. Led by the E&T
director-general, a team raided these offices. All excise and
taxation inspectors and officials of Ghakhar Town office ran away when they saw the raiding team.
The director-general got the locks broken down and took all record and property survey reports into custody. He also issued show cause notice to many inspectors and other officials and ordered an inquiry against them.
An audit team of the Punjab Excise and Taxation directorate-general had raided the district excise and taxation office in Gujranwala some two days ago and took the records of many inspectors into custody.
TWO SHOT DEAD: A man and his daughter were murdered by two men in Wazirabad on Saturday.
According to details, Tahir and Adeel had abducted the daughter of Munir Ahmad of Shero locality and took away to unknown place. Later, they returned the girl on the intervention of family elders.
Munir and his daughter were going to a police station to get an abduction case registered when Tahir and Adeel intercepted them. The accused opened
fire on them following exchange of hot words. As a result, the father and his daughter died on the spot.
Police took the bodies to Wazirabad Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for autopsy.
A case has been registered against the accused who were at large.
ROAD ACCIDENT: Two men were killed while 30 others were injured in a road accident on Wazirabad Road on Saturday.
According to report reaching here, a bus (LHR 386) was on its way to Wazirabad from Alipur Chattha. The speeding bus overturned near Dharowal village and fell in a ditch. As a result, Sabir Hussain and Rafiq Ahmad died on the spot.
The condition of 30 injured passengers were stated to be critical at the civil hospital.
