KARACHI, Dec 15: Two bandits shot and wounded an armyman and took away his van and official rifle in Sachal police limits on Saturday.

The police said that an FIR (No 101/2001) had been registered at the police station which stated that two bandits tried to hijack a Toyota Hi-ace in front of Shumail Complex near Mosamiat Chowk from an armyman, Naik Noor Mohammed. As he put up resistance to the bandits, they fired on him, snatched his official rifle and sped away in his van leaving him injured. Neither any arrest had been made nor the vehicle located till our going to the press.

carjacking: Twelve vehicles — six cars and an equal number of motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Saturday, a spokesman for the Central Police Office said.

Two cars were hijacked in district East. Four others were stolen in districts East, South and Central.

Three motorcycles were hijacked in districts East and South. Three others were stolen in districts Central, East and West.

ACCIDENT: A rickshaw driver died when his rickshaw collided with a car in Block-M in North Nazimabad on Saturday.

The police said that the rickshaw driver was seriously injured in the collision. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. His identity could not be ascertained immediately. The police took the car driver, Mohammed Afzal, into custody and registered a case.

WOUNDED: Three unidentified young men shot and wounded two policemen in Lines Area on Saturday.

A police official said two policemen, deputed near Cafe Students in Brigade police limits, stopped three young men, on a routine check, to frisk them. One of the young men took out a pistol, fired on the policemen and ran away.

The two policemen, head constable Rais Abbas, aged 34, and constable Azam Mirza, aged 30, were wounded and taken to a hospital where doctors described Azam’s condition as serious.

ELECTROCUTED: A butcher, Iqbal Qureshi, resident of Liaquatabad, died of electrocution on Saturday.
