GUJRANWALA, Dec 11: An opposition group in the tehsil council criticized the district Nazim’s group on Tuesday, alleging unfair distribution of development and welfare funds.

Speaking at a meeting held here, Sheikh Muhammad Iqbal, a tehsil council opposition leader, said that the citizens were facing a lot of problems on account of lack of water supply and sewerage facilities and problems at the divisional headquarters hospital. He said the opposition would not support any political alliance or group ignoring public interest.

Haji Muhammad Afzal Khokhar, Rana Amanullah and Naib Nazims Dr Ziauddin, Muhammad Sajjad Sindho, Chaudhry Munir Iqbal, Mehr Muhammad Altaf and Salamat Masih also participated in the meeting.

Meanwhile, a number of district council members demanded that the construction of the GT Road be expedited.

LIQUIDATION: A Gujranwala banking court ordered auctioning the properties of four defaulters of bank loans and issued arrest warrants for 24 people.

The accused belong to Gujrat, Sialkot, Hafizabad and Gujranwala and owe about Rs2 million to various banks.

KILLED: A woman was stabbed to death by unidentified people in Afzal Colony on Tuesday.

Shama, a resident of Shahdara, Lahore, was alone in the house of her relative on Hamilton Road when the incident took place.

Police have removed the body to the Civil Hospital for autopsy.

Motive behind the murder and accused could not be known.

DEATH SENTENCE: An additional session judge sentenced a man to death along with Rs50,000 fine in a murder case and acquitted his accomplice by giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Convict Riaz killed one Muhammad Akram over a minor issue in Garjakh on January 11, 2000. The judge acquitted Muhammad Ismail.

The judge also awarded five years’ imprisonment with Rs10,000 fine to one Imran, the brother of deceased Akram, for injuring Ismail in the same case.

OBITUARY: The sister of Punjab special branch DSP Tariq Hanif Joia and Kharian SHO Asif Hanif Joia died in Ghakkhar town on Monday night.

She was laid to rest in a local graveyard on Tuesday.
