ISLAMABAD, Dec 6: Justice Ali Nawaz Chohan of the Lahore High Court (Rawalpindi Bench) Thursday dismissed a writ petition filed by Jawadul Hassan, a self-proclaimed representative of Islamabad Cricket Association (ICA).

The honourable judge after hearing all parties involved in the dispute ruled that Jawad file an appeal with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in 30 days time and ordered that status quo be maintained in the meantime.

Syed Mansoor Ahmed is the current head of the ICA ad hoc committee which has been allowed to perform all functions by the LHC. The PCB had authorised Mansoor to run the affairs of the association on Oct 26 last year.

Jawad has been told by the court to file the appeal in terms of article 39 of the PCB constitution which states that a member who has been suspended by the Council may appeal against the decision with the General Body and that the General Body’s decision on the appeal filed by the suspended member shall be final.

Jawad, a former ICA office-holder had filed a writ petition with the LHC (Rawalpindi Bench) against the decision of the PCB chairman, Lt. Gen Tauqir Zia of suspending ICA and appointing an ad hoc committee.

In his petition, Jawad had asked for revoking Tauqir’s order of appointing an ad hoc committee for running cricket in Islamabad and to allow his (Jawad’s) association to perform its duties.

Justice Chohan ruled that PCB was the supreme cricket authority in the country and that its decisions were not challengeable except through the mechanics of the Board’s constitution.
