PESHAWAR, Dec 6: A court on Wednesday issued arrest warrants for a former commissioner and deputy commissioner of Peshawar for non-compliance of an order.

The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Azeem Khan Afridi took exception to the officials not appearing before the court. The court directed that they should be produced on Dec 21, in the next hearing.

The police and administration had seized wireless sets and other equipments from the possession of a dealer, Ashrafuddin, at Karkhano bazaar to years back. The police  claimed  that the dealer had kept the equipment in contravention of laws.

The dealer was later released on bail and a court ordered return of the equipment as their possession war not illegal.

However, the administration had reportedly distributed the equipment among the police and other officials.

The dealer filed an application before the court praying that directives be issued to the administration for return of his equipment.

During the last hearing, the court had issued notice Naveed Akram Cheema, the commissioner, and Azam Khan, the deputy commissioner at the time of the incident. Mr Cheema is currently the Peshawar DCO. However, they did not appear.

An extra assistant commissioner, Khayam Hassan, appeared before the court and deposed that they had returned the equipment to the administration and received receipts.
