BAHAWALPUR, Dec 4: Justice Akhtar Shabbir of Lahore High Court, Bahawalpur bench, has directed the director public instruction (DPI), Punjab, to review the seniority list of teachers and submit his report within 10 days.

This directive was issued on Tuesday on a writ petition filed by one Ghulam Farid who was transferred to a remote area school.

He contended that after the abolition of education directorates the DPI did not keep in view the seniority of teachers while transferring them to rural areas.

The petitioner submitted that according to the policy, senior teachers should have been posted at Bahawalpur and junior ones transferred to Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalnagar.

He contended that the DPI, in contravention of this principle, posted junior teachers at Bahawalpur while senior teachers were transferred to far flung areas.

EDUCATION AFFAIRS: Three posts of deputy district officers (education, female) in Bahawalpur, Hasilpur and Khairpur Tamewali tehsils have been lying vacant for the past for two years as a result of which working of girls schools affected badly.

However, the education department made interim arrangements to run the offices of DDOs. In the absence of DDOs, payment of teachers’ salaries has been delayed several times. Hundreds of women teachers staged a protest demonstration last month and they were assured of regular payment of salaries. But no step has so far been taken to resolve this problem.

woman killed: A woman was allegedly murdered by her nephews over a land dispute in Yazman in the jurisdiction of head Rajkan police.

Ms Hafeezan was killed by Shabbir, etc., at Sehri time on Monday.

It is learnt that the woman had sought Yazman DSP’s help fearing for her life.
