Extortion at railway station

Published December 4, 2001

FAISALABAD, Dec 3: The sale of railway tickets at exorbitant rates by the coolie mafia at the local station goes on unabated due to negligence of the authorities concerned.

A survey conducted by this correspondent on Monday revealed that booking clerks kept the windows closed for ticket seekers, claiming all the seats had been reserved.

It was observed that armed men were collecting Rs10 in the name of toll tax from every vehicle owner for entering the station.

The railway authorities, on the other hand, had done nothing so far to invite people’s complaints in any form.
