GUJRANWALA, Dec 3: The Sindh health secretary was deprived of cash, valuables and a Land Cruiser by highwaymen on the GT Road here on Monday.

Chaudhry Khalid Latif was on his way to Kharian from Lahore by a Land Cruiser along with his family. Near Khori village on the GT Road in the Sadhoki area, some highwaymen also riding a four-wheeler intercepted them. They threw the secretary, his family and the driver on the road at a deserted place and drove away with the jeep.

According to a report, police of Gujranwala and Sheikhupura districts were reluctant to register a case saying the place of incident did not fall in their jurisdiction.

SUSPENDED: The entire staff of a police post was suspended from service by the city SP for inefficiency here on Monday.

Police authorities had tightened security ahead of Eid in and around the city and issued directives to all police officials to be on high alert to avert any untoward incident. But when the SP paid a surprise visit to the Khiali police post to review security arrangements, he found that its 10-member staff, including its in charge, ASI Javed Siddiq, and Moharrar Aftab Ahmad, was asleep. He suspended the entire staff from service instantly and issued them a show-cause notice.

Meanwhile, four traffic police officials were suspended from service by the SP traffic for extorting money from the vehicle crew in Farid Town.

Those suspended are inspector Sanaullah Niazi, ASI Muhammad Nawaz and two head-constables.

DACOITIES: Highwaymen looted a bus and injured its driver, conductor and three passengers on resistance during a dacoity bid here on Monday.

A bus was on its way to Sheikhupura. As it reached near Artali Virkan village, Naushera Virkan, four outlaws boarded it in the guise of passengers. The bandits snatched cash, gold ornaments and valuables from passengers and also manhandled bus driver Sanaullah, conductor Bhola, helper Rifaqat and three passengers, including Ali Ahmad and Mushtaq.

In another incident, six dacoits forced their entry into the house of Ghulam Husain in Kohlowala village and held hostage the inmates at gunpoint. The intruders snatched Rs80,000 in cash, jewellery and valuables and fled.

Ahsan and Saeed were going on a motorcycle when they were intercepted by two robbers. The interceptors snatched the motorbike and fled.
