Taliban’s rigidities led to their crash, says Nasim Wali
ISLAMABAD, Dec 3: Begum Nasim Wali Khan, provincial president of Awami National Party (ANP), has criticized the Taliban for their stubbornness which has led them to experience the worst.
Commenting on the Taliban’s aggressive laws she said that they were very rigid and had stiffened even those laws that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) had brought and implemented.
Talking to Radio Tehran she said that had Osama bin Laden been sincere with Islam and the Afghans he would have left this ill-fated country voluntarily.
She said that Osama’s preference to stay in Afghanistan for security reason was an act of cowardice which resulted in the ruination of the Afghans and their country.
“Afghanistan is facing bad days due to Osama’s presence there. He was expelled from his own country and when he lost his identity, he chose to take shelter in Afghanistan. And since then has been exploiting the Afghan tradition of not handing over a guest to the enemy.
“An Afghan Shoora, convened in Kandahar, had said that if he (Osama) wished he could leave Afghanistan. After this Osama should have left Afghanistan and not put Afghans’ life at risk,” she deplored.
Commenting on the Bonn talks she said that the UN should have worked out plans for such a conference much earlier in order to avoid bloodshed.
“The Bonn conference is the first step towards peace in Afghanistan. So, one cannot attach high hops about the success of the conference. For that another round would be necessary,” she said.
“I think that in the last 20 years every government in Afghanistan was imposed on the Afghans. In this new effort by the UN it is our hope that the new set up would be representative and the rights of the Pakhtoons would be protected.
“We think that if any government is formed without proper representation of the Pakhtoons it would not be an effective or lasting arrangement.
“Since Afghanistan is our neighbour and an Islamic country we would like to support any idea that would lead to the establishment of a stable government, she said.”
Talking about the presence of American troops in Afghanistan she said that the Sept 11 attacks on New York and Washington provided them an opportunity to land in Afghanistan.
She added, “I believe that the US troops are there to wipe out terrorists. Now it is up to the belligerent Afghan groups, who are at draggers-drawn with each other, to put their heads together and find a solution to their problems.
She, however, hoped that the US would withdraw its troops from Afghanistan after the accomplishment of its objective of flushing out terrorists and destroying camps there.” —NNI
