SWABI, Dec 2: Five people, including the councillor of the Tandi Khoi union council, were gunned down and one other was wounded in a feud over a woman near the Punjpir bus stop here on Saturday.

According to the district police, the councillor, Abdul Khalil, with his five armed companions, was on his way to the Kodhar village from the Swabi judicial lockup in a car (LXG 3852) when his rivals, also riding in a car, opened indiscriminate fire on his car near the bus stop and the district’s defunct police lines. His companions returned the fire.

During the exchange of fire, Khalil and his four companions, named as Sirajul Haq, Abidullah, Shahzad Gul and Dilawar, died on the spot and his another companion, Sultan Bahadur, received serious bullet injuries. The injured was taken to the district headquarter hospital.

The assailants fled the scene in their car, which was later found in the Kadi village.

The councillor had come to the Swabi judicial lock up to receive his another companion, Shahzad Gul, who had been released on bail.

His brother, Abdul Haleem, alias Talib, lodged an FIR with the Swabi police against Amjad, Ansar, Rashid, Sajid and Imtiaz. He said the incident had occurred due to old enmity.

About two years ago, Khalil forced Wisal Khan of the Kadi village to divorce his wife, Riaz, and later married with her.

The marriage was strongly opposed by Riaz’s brothers, one was identified as Amjad, and her former husband.

One year back, Khalil, with his three bodyguards, were attacked, while they were going to their homes in a tonga. The bodyguards were died on the spot, but he received minor injuries.
