JI criticizes govt policy

Published December 2, 2001

PESHAWAR, Dec 1: Acting chief of Jamaat-i-Islami, Syed Munawar Hasan, has claimed that the US wants to pit the common Pakistani against his armed forces, but the JI will foil all such manipulations.

Speaking at a JI meeting here on Friday, he claimed Gen Pervez Musharraf’s policies had left the country in isolation in the Muslim world. By siding with America, Gen Musharraf had caused damage to the Kashmir cause and invited a risk to Pakistan’s nuclear capability.

He said the US was the biggest terrorist as everywhere in the world, the US and its allies were making Muslims their target. The Ummah, he said, must take note of the humiliating attitude of Western governments towards Muslims, he added.

The US president, Mr Hasan said, had declared war against the Taliban as crusade and it was indeed a war against the Jihadi forces and the Islam.
