PESHAWAR, Nov 29: The Kabul museum was reopened for the general public for the first time in five years after the fall of Taliban government in Kabul.
A formal ceremony, covered by media teams from across the world, was held at the museum on Wednesday. The mediamen were shown different sections of the museum and the colossal destruction inflicted by the Taliban regime to the Afghan cultural heritage.
Sources in Kabul told Dawn that head of the United Front’s cultural wing, Abdul Hafeez Mansoor, on this occasion, held the Pakistan government responsible for the destruction of Afghan heritage.
He claimed at a Press conference that the demolition of Buddha’s statues in Afghanistan’s central Bamyan province was carried out on the directives of Pakistan government. The sources said chief of the Afghan cultural department asked Unesco to hold inquiry into the destruction of Buddha’s statues.
