ISLAMABAD, Nov 25: The Progressive Women Association (PWA) held a peaceful demonstration to commemorate International Day on Violence Against Women, and Convention on the “elimination of all forms of discrimination against women”, in Islamabad on Sunday.

The demonstration was participated by Kashmir and Afghan refugee women.

The demonstrators condemned the atrocities perpetuated against Afghan and Kashmiri women. They chanted slogans for the rights of these women.

PWA chief organizer Shahnaz Bukhari said women in these two parts of the globe were being victimized and their rights denied. They were subjected to physical and mental torture which was against all norms of human rights, she said.

The Revolutionary Associ-ation of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA), also participated in the demonstration. A member of RAWA said Afghan women should be given representation in all fields of life. She criticised the Northern Alliance forces for torturing women after the fall of Kabul. — PPI
