KARACHI, Nov 25: All the SSPs in Karachi have, on the directives of the Inspector General of Sindh Police, Syed Kamal Shah, been given guidelines to take steps for security in Ramazan as well as on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The purpose is to ensure safety and security to people in and around shopping centres, to prevent terrorism, sabotage, pickpocketry and eve teasing, etc.
SDPOs/SHOs will set up pickets and make arrangements for foot patrolling at shopping centres and other places. Strict security will be maintained at parking lots, and parking of vehicles at a distance from shopping centres will be ensured. Security guards will check vehicles with metal and explosive detectors.
Temporary police centres, equipped with wireless, will be set up at busy shopping centres. Office-bearers of associations of shopping centres will be encouraged to sit at police reporting centres so that various matters can be addressed instantly with their cooperation.
The public will be educated not to touch any suspicious object and report anything of the sort to the nearest police reporting centre.
In Ramazan, effective security will be maintained at mosques and Imambargahs. Security personnel will be posted at parking lots with metal and explosive detectors.
At prayer time, particularly during Fajr and Taraveeh, police and volunteers will jointly remain on guard.
Police have been directed to carry out snap checking to check the movement of anti-social elements.
Important duties have been assigned to the bomb disposal squads to check private and public vehicles around shopping centres and parking lots.
