NEW DELHI, Nov 25: The United States has offered to assist India in checking the infiltration of guerillas from across the Line of Control in Kashmir by giving surveillance equipment, “The Hindu” newspaper reported on Sunday.

It said President George W.Bush’s administration committed a small amount to transfer sensors, unmanned aerial vehicles and other equipment to enhance India’s security capability, during Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s visit to Washington this month. The report did not explain what was meant by unmanned aerial vehicles.

Indian officials could not be reached for their comment.

“This will be the first instance of concrete American cooperation in countering terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir,” the newspaper said. —Reuters
