KARACHI: Teachers, students hold demo

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 21: Students and teachers of Adamjee Science College on Wednesday held a joint demonstration against the government’s decision to denationalize the educational institutions, which had been nationalized in the early ‘70s.

The teachers held a meeting with students at the college, informing them about the repercussions of the denationalization process. They expressed the view that the process would cast adverse effects on the students, particularly those from the lower and middle income groups.

Speakers, including Prof Abdul Ghaffar, Prof Najmul Islam, Syed Mushtaq Hussain and Prof Mirza Athar Hussain, gave details of their protest campaign against the denationalization and said that a demonstration would be held at any one of the city colleges every day till the government withdrew its decision to denationalize the educational institutions in the province.

Later, the teachers and the students brought out a rally from the college and staged a sit-in near Guru Mandir roundabout, which caused traffic blockage for about one hour.

As a part of their protest move, the teachers will also observe one-hour strike at colleges on Friday and Saturday, said a college teacher.
