NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Nov 18: The DCO, Naushahro Feroze, Jamil Ahmed Siddiqui, suspended former town officer, Mehrabpur, and ordered to freeze various bank accounts on the charge of misappropriation of Rs4.5m by the Nazims of union council-I and II Mehrabpur.

After taking over the charge, the Nazim, union council-I Mehrabpur, Ghulam Abid Talpur, Nazim union council-II, Mehrabpur, Munawar Baig Mughal, in collision with the then town officer, M Sadiq Watio, equally divided the total amount lying in various bank accounts of the town committee Mehrabpur without any legal or moral authority.

They further drew the amount with their joint signatures and placed the same in newly-opened bank accounts in the names of the respective union council Nazims.

These two union councils were constituted as a result of division of the old town committee, Mehrabpur, under the devolution programme.

According to section 180(c) of the Sindh Local Government Ordinance, 2001 regarding succession of the properties, assets and liabilities of defunct urban councils, they come under the taluka municipal administration.

No case was registered till the filing of this report.
