KARACHI, Nov 18: Reckless driving claimed three lives in the city on Sunday.

The police said that two boys, Mohammed Wakil, aged 12, and Mohammed Ashfaq, aged 13, were crushed to death beneath the wheels of a water tanker in Orangi Extension. The police said that the boys were engaged in a fight on a street in Gulshan-i-Zia, Sector 11, when they were run over by a recklessly- driven water tanker (JP-1362).

The injured boys were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival. The police claimed to have arrested the tanker-driver, Abdul Qadir, and impounded the truck.

A man died in a road accident on Kashmir Road. The police said that Sharif, aged 45, with two friends, Mohammed Sharif and Rashid, were going to Cantt Railway Station in a taxi (JM-6464) when it collided with a car (W-0069).

The three injured men were rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where Sharif died.

The police said that the driver of the car escaped.

SUICIDE: A young girl committed suicide in her house in Landhi on Sunday.

The police said that Aqila, aged 17, drank kerosene in her house in Landhi 3-A. She was rushed to the JPMC where she died.

The police said that the motive for the suicide could not be ascertained immediately.

SHOT DEAD: A young man was shot dead in New Karachi on Sunday morning.

The police said that Saleem Qureshi, aged 28, was on way to his butcher shop in Gulshan-i-Iqbal when he was shot dead by two armed assailants in Sector 11-F in New Karachi.

He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The police said that Ghaffar and Hashim had been named in the FIR got registered by Saleem’s wife at New Karachi police station. The police described personal enmity as the motive behind the killing.

The two assailants were absconding till our going to the press.
