ISLAMABAD, Nov 16: Pakistan-Afghanistan Defence Council (PADC) on Friday called for the formation of interim setup in the country declaring the military government had failed to safeguard the interests of Pakistan as well as Muslim Ummah.

Speaking at a demonstration which held here at Aabpara chowk in connection with the Black Day announced by the PADC, the leaders of the council demanded of President Pervez Musharraf to establish an interim setup representing all political and religious parties of the country.

They termed the fall of Kabul a war tactic of Taliban forces claiming that Taliban could reoccupy the capital within two days if they understood it necessary.

“Owing to lack of political vision President Musharraf has failed to safeguard country as well as Muslim Ummah’s interests ,” acting Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Munawar Hassan said.

Quoting a statement of president Musharraf that the Supreme Court of Pakistan had allowed the military government to rule for three years, the JI leader said despite the ruling of the apex court, the President announced, during his recent visit to US, that he would continue as President even after this period.

Criticising the US policies, the JI leader said the US wanted to create rifts between armed forces of Pakistan and the nation.

“Armed forces of the country should not scare of religious parties, their leaders and their activists as we are brothers of those who are safe guarding the boarders of the country,” he added.

He claimed that none of the country could invade Afghanistan saying that Britain and Russia had tried to invade Afghanistan but in vain. “Similar mistake is being repeated by the US but it has to face the similar fate,” he said.

Munawar Hassan criticised Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for supporting the government in current situation. “PPP always demands the restoration of democracy in the country, then why is it now seeking the help of the military government?” he questioned.

Other leaders of the council said Taliban had already left Kabul before the intrusion of US-led forces and handed over the city to local commanders.

“After the fall of Kabul, over one dozen governments have been established in Afghanistan which could create trouble for US-led forces.”

They said President Musharraf was trying to create hatred in the hearts of Pakistanis against religious groups and their leaders.

They said the US-led forces had killed hundreds of Pakistanis and their children in Kabul but unfortunately the military government did not pay any heed on the bloodshed.

The PADC’s leaders also condemned the registration of a case against the students of Institute of Arabic Studies (IAS) under Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) for staging a peaceful demonstration at Karachi Company a week ago.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Zaheerul Islam Abbasi, Ghazi Abdul Rashid, Maulana Hussain Ahmed Fishani, Maulana Abdul Waheed Qasmi, Maulana Tanveer Ahmed Alvi, Sarfraz Abbasi, Malik Shujaa and others.
