PESHAWAR, Nov 15: Reposing complete confidence in the leadership of former NWFP chief minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, the provincial council of Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao) described him as a politician with an unimpeachable character to fill the current political vacuum in the country.
Speaking at a meeting of PPP’s provincial council at People’s House on Tuesday, central leader of party Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao said that Aftab Sherpao could play a pivotal role in the national politics to help resolve the prevalent crisis in the country.
Enumerating former chief minister’s vast political and administrative experience, Sikandar Sherpao urged the government to pave way for his safe and honourable return to the country so as to utilize his talent to achieve the supreme national interests. “He enjoys influence and respect in the smaller provinces, therefore, he must be engaged to help remove disharmony at national political scenario,” he added.
He expressed satisfaction over the assurance given by President Musharraf that elections would be held according to the timeframe given by the Supreme Court.
He urged the party leaders and workers to complete the party organization and start preparations for the next elections. Lauding the performance of party activists in the local bodies elections, he impressed upon them to work zealously for the upcoming general elections.
Speaking on the occasion, President Pakistan Muslim League (Qasim) Syed Kabir Ali Wasti, hailed the decision of the government to support the international community against terrorism.
Paying tribute to former chief minister Aftab Sherpao, he said he was the undisputed leader of the Pakhtoons. He said Mr Sherpao had always worked for the betterment of his people and would soon return home to lead the dispersed Pakhtoons towards unity.
On this occasion, PPP leaders Kamran Khan, Ghanidad Khan, Ghani Mohammad Khan, Arshad Khan, Janas Khan, Fazal Rehman, Mehmud-ul-Islam advocate, Alamgir Khalil and Pervez Rana said that the country needed the leadership of Mr Sherpao at this critical juncture.
PPP(S)’s provincial council unanimously adopted various resolutions through which it reposed confidence in the leadership of Aftab Sherpao.
The council also demanded an immediate stoppage to the US airstrikes and initiation of talks for the establishment of a broad-based government in Afghanistan.
The meeting was attended by former parliamentarians besides PPP office-bearers.
