Bankers edge out Vogue

LAHORE, Nov 14: In a well-contested match of the Ghulam Muhammad Memorial Polo Tournament, Deutsche Bank beat Vogue by six goals to five (6-5) at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground on Wednesday.

In another match of the competition, Lahore Chatkhara defeated Sherwood by seven goals to three-and-a-half (7-3 1/2).

For the Deutsche Bank, Sufi Muhammad Amir struck thrice while Javed Mawaz Khan scored two and Ishaq Khakwani one goal. Captain Azhar scored three goals for the Vogue side while Mustafa Tiwana and Muhammad Hashim struck once.

Javed, Ishaq and Sufi Amir scored a field goal in the first chukker. During the second chukker, Sufi Amir scored his second goal and Javed Mawaz also put in his second goal on a 30 yards penalty-hit.

The third chukker was dominated by the Vogue team. Captain Azhar Ali scored two goals on 60 yards penalty-hits. Muhammad Hashim scored his only goal for the Vogue team, crowning a field effort. Mustafa Tiwana also scored his only field goal for the Vogue side. Sufi scored his third and Deutsche Bank’s sixth goal on a field effort.

Captain Azhar Ali again converted a 60 yards penalty-hit. That was Azhar’s third and the Vogue side’s fifth goal.

Deutsche Bank: Feroze Gulzar (-1), Sufi Muhammad Amir (0), Javed Mawaz Khan (1), Ishaq Khakwani (1).

Vogue: Rachel Williams (-1), Mustafa Tiwana (0), Captain Azhar Ali (2), Sowar Muhammad Hashim (0).

Sherwood enjoyed half-a-goal’s advantage on the handicap and it could put in three goals as Maula Bakhsh, Shehzad Aziz and Mir Shoaib Ahmad struck once, each. But the Lahore Chatkhara dominated play and scored seven goals to win the match by a convincing margin. Bilal Haye struck thrice while Shah Shamyl Alam and Taimur Malik scored two goals, each.
