GUJRANWALA, Nov 13: Police officials have been warned against keeping suspects in custody without registration of cases and torturing them.
The range police DIG said in a directive to all the DSPs and SHOs on Tuesday that the violators would be dealt with severely.
He also directed that police guards should be deployed outside lock-up to ensure that the accused should not escape.
The DIG directed that each DSP would be responsible to check the guards and their arms before allowing them to escort the under-trial accused to court.
ANTI-US RALLY: The leaders of religious parties and the Pak-Afghan Defence Council have decided that an anti-US protest rally will be taken out on Friday besides complete shutter down strike with the cooperation of business community.
The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Jamaat-i-Islami district president Maulana Obaidur Rehman Madni here on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by the leaders of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, the Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan, the Jamiat Ahle Hadith, the Jamiat Ahle Sunnat, the Pakistan Shariat Council, the Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) and other groups.
The participants said that they would continue to take out rallies till the government stopped helping the US-led attacks on Afghanistan.
The meeting demanded that all arrested leaders, including Jamaat chief Qazi Husain Ahmad, JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Maulana Samiul Haq and SSP chief Maulana Azam Tariq should be released immediately. The participants threatened that countrywide strikes would continue till their leaders’ release.
QUACKS ARRESTED: Five quacks were arrested in a joint raid of police and health officials in Sodara and Wazirabad on Tuesday.
They were practising as qualified medical officers, eye specialists and dentists in various parts of the towns.
