New cotton seeds examined

SAHIWAL, Nov 13: Punjab agriculture minister Khurshid Zaman Qureshi and Faisalabad agriculture (research) director general Dr Ghulam Muhammad on Tuesday examined new varieties of cotton in the Sahiwal research station.

While briefing, deputy director told the minister that new varieties had greater resistance against virus, white fly and American worm suited to the Sahiwal climate.

These had the capacity to give 25 to 30 maunds of cotton per acre, he said.

BAN: District Nazim Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan on Tuesday banned the entry of people other than staff and candidates to the CT/OT examination centres under section 144 CrPc.

SHOT DEAD: A farmer was shot dead by two persons over a monetary dispute here on Monday.

Daud Saleem of Chak 91/6-R bought fertilizer from a dealer Shaikh Munir Ahmad on credit. The farmer failed to pay the amount within stipulated time while Munir and his son allegedly attacked him. He entered a house to save his life. Seeing him scaling the boundary wall, Munir’s son Waheed opened fire on the him, killing him instantly.

LOOTED: Three robbers looted cash and valuables from a farmer’s house in Chak 70/4-R on Monday night.

They locked Pervez Abbas and his family in a room and fled with gold ornaments, a licensed gun and other valuables.

Meanwhile, in Chak 108/9-L, Shahbaz and Yaqoob drove away with Muhammad Ashiq’s motorcycle (OK-6588).

Police have registered separate cases.

KILLED: A woman died while four people sustained injuries in a road accident here on Monday.

A rickshaw (BNC-8764) collided head-on with a bus (LH-9981), leaving Sajida dead and four others injured.

The injured were taken to a nearby hospital.
