ISLAMABAD, Nov 12: An accountability court hearing Redco default case against Saifur Rehman on Monday directed the superintendent of central jail to make arrangements for November 13 meeting between the accused and the representatives of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for loan settlement.

The orders were issued by the accountability court while deciding the application of Saifur Rehman, who had sought adjournment of the hearing till the decision of the conciliatory committee meeting of the SBP on the loan settlement issue. The court adjourned the proceedings for November 17.

The application had been filed by the accused under Section 25-A of the National Accountability Bureau Ordinance.

Defence counsel Mujeebur Rehman while representing Saifur Rehman and his brother Mujeebur Rehman requested the court to adjourn the hearing since the Supreme Court had summoned the SBP for November 16 to inform about the outcome of the conciliatory meeting. Saifur Rehman had approached the Supreme Court seeking orders for the implementation of the settlement proposal for the repayment of the United Bank Limited (UBL) loan.

The apex court had issued notices to the SBP and the NAB for November 16.

Saifur Rehman was being prosecuted on the charges of wilful default.
