JUI terms strike complete success

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Nov 9: Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam (JUI-F) secretary general Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri on Friday termed the country-wide wheel-jam strike observed throughout the country in protest against the US-led attacks on Afghanistan a complete success.

Speaking at a press conference here, he said four JUI workers — Muhammad Asif, Malik Bashir, Hafiz Abdul Karim and Abdullah — had been killed when police had opened fire to disperse a crowd while it was blocking the main highway in Shabdar Lund, D. G. Khan.

“The strike was 100 per cent successful,” he said, adding that they had received reports of demonstrations and closure of all businesses from all over the country.

Maulana Haidri said a meeting of the Pakistan-Afghanistan Defence Council would be held here on Saturday to chalk out future strategy. He gave a protest call against the killings of the four workers for the next Friday.

He warned that the JUI could give a call for launching a civil disobedience movement.
