GUJRANWALA, Nov 9: Over 300 sanitary workers recruited on daily wages have voiced their worries for not getting their salaries for the last two months.
It is learnt the tehsil city council had taken on these sanitary workers to improve the deteriorating sanitary condition of the city.
When contacted, the tehsil city council finance officer said the government had banned the recruitment while employees on ad hoc basis could be recruited with the approval of the government. Therefore, he said, salaries to sanitary workers could not be paid till the government approval.
Meanwhile, sanitary workers are pressing Nazims, Naib Nazims and councillors to make arrangements for the early release of their salaries.
The tehsil city council has referred the case to the local government and district account office, requesting them to resolve the matter without any further delay.
FOUR KILLED: Four people, including an army man, were killed while 10 others injured in different road accidents in and around the city here on Friday.
A truck carrying army personnel was on its way to Cantonment from Wazirabad. Near Dhaunkel check post on the GT Road, it overturned due to the failure of its tie-rod. All the army men sustained injuries and were rushed to the local Combined Military Hospital where Muhammad Ali expired.
In Naushera Virkan, two youths were crushed to death by a speeding trailer on the Tetley Road.
Muhammad Amjad and Nasir Ali were going to their home by a bicycle when they were hit by the trailer. The former died instantly while the latter died on the way of the local civil hospital.
Naushera Virkan police have registered a case and are investigating.

LOOTED: Armed highwaymen on Friday looted a passenger bus and a pick-up near Alipur Chattha.
Three outlaws intercepted the bus which was on its way to Ajan village from the city near Alipur Chattha. They boarded the vehicle and snatched at gunpoint cash, wristwatches and jewellery from passengers worth Rs90,000 and escaped.
Four robbers halted the pick-up also near Alipur Chattha and deprived half a dozen vegetable sellers of Rs10,000 in cash, collectively.
