ISLAMABAD, Nov 6: Police recovered 49 cars and 13 motorbikes during its ongoing campaign against thieves and arrested members of seven gangs involved in the crime, claimed senior superintendent of police, Islamabad, Nasir Khan Durrani on Tuesday.
The SSP was speaking at a press conference followed by a ceremony of handing over keys of the recovered vehicles to their owners.
After its reorganization in the wake of rising vehicle theft cases, the anti-car lifting cell, headed by ASP Yasin Farooq, recovered 49 cars and 13 motorcycles stolen from different parts of the country, the SSP said.
He claimed that after the arrest of the gang members, the crime had fallen.
Twenty-two cars were handed over to their owners while efforts are under way to trace the owners of the remaining cars, the SSP said.
DACOITY BID FOILED: In another case people foiled an attempt to rob a shoe store on busy Jamia Masjid Road on Tuesday.
Zafarul Haq, assistant manager Service Shoe informed Banni police, that he heard the security guard Naseer Ahmad’s shout. At the same time three men walked into the store and pulled out their pistols.
The armedmen herded the employees and the customers into a side room and forced them to hand over the cash. They took away a gun from the security guard and fled in panick when the hostages started shouting to attract attention of the people around, who came to their help.
No arrests have been made till the filing of the report.
THREE VEHICLES STOLEN: Three vehicles, including a car, were stolen in different areas of Rawalpindi, police said.
Nasir Majeed’s car (RID-3453) was stolen in Satellite Town, Ghulam Hussain and Mehmood Masih were deprived of their motorcycles (JMB-7015 and RIW-6591).
A motorbike was also stolen from Cantt police area.
