PHF plans 8-nation tournament next year

By Mohammad Yaqoob

LAHORE, Nov 3: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has invited seven countries for a proposed international tournament to be organized here from January 20 to 26.

The countries invited are The Netherlands, Germany, Australia, South Korea, England, Belgium and Spain.

The basic idea to hold the event is to generate funds to compensate the shifting of the 23rd Champions Trophy from Lahore to Rotterdam.

The ongoing Trophy was to be held here Nov 3 but was moved to the Netherlands by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) due to US attacks on Afghanistan.

The proposed tournament will provide ideal warm-up before February’s World Cup.
