‘NAB team’ extorts bribe from patwaris

By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, Nov 3: A fake National Accountability Bureau team on Saturday arrested two revenue patwaris on corruption charges and later released them in Lahore after extorting bribe.

The accused, masquerading themselves as NAB magistrates, took into ‘custody’ Tahir Iqbal and Malik Naeem from their offices at Patu Mandi circle and Aroop village for their involvement in ‘corruption’.

They asked the patwaris to arrange Rs150,000 if they wanted to save their skin. Having no money in hand, they offered them Rs32,000 after taking the amount from their friend in Nucki village. The ‘NAB men’ readily accepted the deal. After receiving the money, they released them near Minar-i-Pakistan, Lahore, and disappeared in their taxi cab (LXO-4417).

On receiving information, the SSP lodged an FIR against the culprits. Satellite Town police recovered the cab hired by the lawbreakers and also took its driver into custody for interrogation.

NOMINATED: Maj Muhammad Ehsan (retired) has been nominated the Zakat and Usher Committee chairman, Gujranwala district.

The provincial Zakat Council issued the notification to this effect here on Saturday.

After the abolition of zakat and usher committees, the zakat had not been distributed among the destitute for the last three months.
